Buff top cut - This cut combines the elements of both classic cuts – cabochon and faceted. The crown of the stone is smoothly polished while below the girdle, the gem has facets on its pavilion. Due to its facets, this cut still maintains a high amount of lustre and  brilliance and offers the illusion of depth as one looks into the center of the gem. The Buff Top cut is popular because the smooth and polished crown of the gemstone is much less easily scratched than the surface of faceted gemstones, and therefore offers more durability. These are thinner, more shallow yogo sapphires.
